BADIN April 14: Dr. Sono Khanghrani, the known activist and the representative of Hisar Foundation talking to this reporter said that it was nice to go through the report, which he said was mostly focused on the health issues of the desert. Dr. Sono, who himself a Thari, said it was a good recommendation of the commission to federal government to step up and help Sindh government in its ongoing efforts to mitigate the sufferings of the dough-hit people. Dr. Sono endorsed the reports about the increasing radicalization and the “forced conversion” in Thar adding he called upon the concerned functionaries to take strong notice of the issues raised by the commission. He observed that there was the need to mobilize the elected members from Thar and other parts of the country when the same report would be tabled and discussed in Senate, National Assembly and Sindh Assembly in next few days. He maintained that most of the commission formed by the successive government had discussed the decades old chronic issues of the desert adding he deplored the fact that there had always been lack of the will to make comprehensive polices to avoid the reassurances of the droughts and the subsequent deaths and displacement of the local inhabitants. Dr. Shaikh Tanweer Ahmed , the CEO of Health and Nutrition Society (HANDS) told that it was high time to act upon the advice and recommendations made by the commission for the betterment of Thar, which he was groaning under the abject poverty, malnutrition, hunger and lack of the basin necessities of life. He said that his organization, which is already working in the desert area was ready to take over the control of the hospital, if Sindh government so wanted it best interests of Thari people. Advocate Qeemat Rai told that report compiled by commission members after visiting Thar was comprehensive adding he urged both Sindh and federal government to rise to occasion to do the needful as has been stated in the fact finding report. Mr. Rai suggested that Thar under the current situation needed the comprehensive policies by Thar Development Authority, the implementation of Drought Mitigation Police, opening the teaching hospital etc. He hoped that governments would act wisely on the recommendation of the commission. Mr. Partab Shivani of Alif Ailaan, told that commission without favoring anyone had formed and issued a detailed report about the prevailing crises. He demanded the high-ups to act as per the salient features of the report. Mr. Shivani urged the government to pay their attention towards worsening standard of the education. DHO, Dr. Arjan Das rejected the report and termed it pack lies as far as the healthcare facilities in the district are concerned.
